Dear Barry,
The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education has research from Newcastle to Norway to London showing a direct link between venue operating hours and increased levels of violence. That’s pretty conclusive, isn’t it and FARE is a very reputable organisation, eh?
In other words they say The Newcastle Solution WILL work.
That leads others and me to ask where you are getting your information from? Is it from organisations as reputable as that?
I read that you are considering raising the licensing fees from $50 or $3,000 to $25,000. I would imagine many people would be astounded that fees would be that low. Even $25,000 is too low. That would not cover costs for emergency treatment for the victims!
It can only lead people to believe that the booze industry is treated way, way too leniently.
Please Barry, at today’s Cabinet meeting, adopt the Newcastle solution AND increase fees now!
Too many people are suffering.
Bill
